Quick tip on keeping track of your vendor batch numbers for your lab notes

Hey everyone just wanted to drop a quick pointer for the newer researchers joining the sub. When you get a new delivery of lyos always write down the batch numbers right away in your lab journal alongside the date received. Vials all look identical once the boxes get tossed out and tracking your specific data points becomes impossible if you mix up sources.

Man I wish I read this six months ago because I had two identical vials sitting next to each other with zero clue which was which.

Plus if a batch ever behaves slightly differently in your assays you actually have a way to trace it back properly.

My spreadsheet has a dedicated column for source tracking now and it feels so satisfying to keep everything neat.

So true having that exact paper trail makes troubleshooting experimental consistency so much less stressful.

I use a fine point sharpie to write the last three digits of the batch code right on the paper label of the glass vial itself.

That sharpie trick saves so much guesswork later when you are cross referencing old testing certificates.
