My research subject keeps getting hungry is this normal

So my research subject which is a very hungry lab rat I mean very hungry has been exhibiting increased appetite. I am using a new peptide compound you know for research purposes only never for human consumption obviously and it seems to have turned my already food motivated rat into a bottomless pit. I am not complaining really because a hungry rat is an easy rat to work with. They will do anything for a pellet. But I am starting to wonder if this is an expected side effect of this particular compound. The literature review I did was a bit sparse on this specific observation. Has anyone else noticed this with their research subjects? I am just trying to gauge if my rat is an outlier or if this is something to factor into future experimental designs. I am using a relatively standard dosage for its weight. My lab budget is taking a hit though. I might need to start a GoFundMe for rat chow. Just kidding mostly. Any insights would be appreciated. Yeah I have seen similar things with certain growth hormone secretagogues in my animal models. They just become insatiably hungry. It is a known thing with some compounds.

Can confirm. My mice were eating me out of house and home. I had to increase their feeding schedule just to keep up. It is definitely a common observation.

Have you considered adjusting the timing of administration? Sometimes that can mitigate some of the more acute hunger responses. Just a thought for your research protocol.

It is not always universal though. I have tested some GH secretagogues where appetite was not significantly impacted. It really depends on the specific peptide and the receptor pathways it is primarily activating.

That is a good point. Some are definitely more pronounced than others. I was thinking of the more potent ones when I made my comment.
