Totally disagree with comment 2. Why even risk it? BAC water is cheap and readily available. The potential for bacterial contamination with sterile water just isn't worth the headache or compromised research data. Always err on the side of caution for research.

It really depends on the specific peptide too. Some are more robust than others. For sensitive compounds, BAC water is a must. For others, sterile water might be okay for a few days, but again, why risk it for research? Always check the specific compound's stability data if you can find it.

Always BAC water for anything you want to keep for more than a day or two. The benzyl alcohol acts as a preservative. Sterile water is just asking for trouble with bacterial growth, even in a fridge. You risk contaminating your research.

See, this is exactly what I mean! Two completely different viewpoints. I'm trying to do a study that goes for a couple of weeks, so 'a day or two' or 'within a week' makes me nervous. I guess BAC water is the safer bet for my longer term research goals.

I've used sterile water for short term research projects without issues. If you're using it within a week and keeping it cold, it's usually fine. Just make sure your sterile water is actually sterile and you're reconstituting in a clean environment. This is for research only, of course.

I think the key is sterile technique above all else. If your sterile water is truly sterile and you're reconstituting in a laminar flow hood, then the risk is much lower. But most home researchers don't have that setup. So BAC water provides an extra layer of protection. This is for research purposes only, not for human use.
