So my lab fridge died and turned my samples into warm soup
Posted by amberfiles in News and Updates
I left for a three day weekend thinking my old mini fridge was reliable enough to guard my research vials. Came back to a warm puddle of sadness because the compressor literally gave up on life. Turns out room temperature water baths are not the recommended storage method for lyophilized compounds.
My lab notebook is officially weeping and I get to explain to my spreadsheet why half my inventory is now an expensive science experiment gone wrong. Always check your equipment seals people or enjoy the smell of expensive regret when you open the door.

F in the chat for your wallet. That is a brutal way to start the week.

Doubtful. Heat is the ultimate enemy of peptide stability. You probably just cooked an expensive omelet.

Time to invest a tiny bit of cash into a cheap temperature alarm sensor that links to your phone. Saved me twice now from similar disasters.

Honestly most lyophilized stuff is surprisingly hardy for short periods unless it was already reconstituted. Were they mixed yet?

Thanks friend. Wallet is currently filing for emotional damages.

Luckily they were still dry powder so maybe they survived the spa treatment. Time will tell during the next assay.
