My lab scale officially hates me and I am taking it personally
Posted by ambernotes in News and Updates
So I was weighing out some dry powder for my current bench trials yesterday and apparently my hand eye coordination is currently operating at zero percent. I managed to sneeze right as I was transferring a sample and now half my workspace looks like a crime scene from a pharmacy upset. My subject notebook just has the word oops written in big messy letters where the precise measurement data was supposed to go.
At this point my micro scoop is basically a tiny shovel of chaos. Science is supposed to be this clean elegant thing where you wear pristine goggles and look contemplative near a beaker. Instead I am hunched over a tiny plastic tray muttering curses at a pile of white powder while my cat judges me from the doorway. If anyone needs me I will be spending the next three hours recalibrating a scale that probably wants revenge.

The cat judging you is the most accurate part of this entire post. Did you manage to salvage any of the sample or did the sneeze claim the whole vial?

At least it was just powder and not liquid. Spilling reconstituted gear on your lap is a whole different level of despair.

Wait do you guys actually use the tiny scoops that come in the bags or do you switch to a proper lab spatula?

It claimed the whole thing. It was like a miniature white cloud burst into the atmosphere and settled across my keyboard.

I was using the little plastic scoop like an absolute peasant because my metal spatulas were in the wash. Lesson learned forever.
