Struggling to track my subject vial inventory because my lab organization skills are garbage

I spent four hours yesterday trying to categorize my research compounds in the cold storage box and honestly I have created a total disaster zone. I have lyophilized powders rolling around next to random bags of desiccant and half empty bacteriostatic water bottles that look like science experiments from a bad movie. Every time I try to run a clean protocol I spend twenty minutes just searching for the right tiny glass vessel. My lab notebook is even worse since it is just sticky notes covered in coffee stains and cryptic math about volumetric measurements. At this point my rat study is basically being run by a chaotic toddler who refuses to use spreadsheets. If anyone has tips on basic container organization that do not require me to become a neat freak let me know.

Have you tried using those plastic tackle boxes with adjustable dividers? Absolute game changer for keeping tiny vials upright and sorted by compound.

Are you labeling the caps or the sides of the vials? Side labels always peel off from the condensation in the cold box for me.

Tackle boxes work great until you drop the whole tray on the tile floor and shatter half your inventory. Ask me how I know.

That exact fear is why I have avoided tackle boxes so far. Knowing my luck I would trip over my own feet and create a very expensive puddle.

Sharpie on the cap is the only way to survive this hobby without losing your mind.

I write directly on the caps with a fine point sharpie now because the side labels turned into a sticky mush weeks ago.

Just use old spice jars or small kitchen storage bins with labels. Much sturdier than flimsy plastic craft boxes.
