Man I wish I read something like this when I first started out. I lost track of an entire batch last month because I just relied on memory and trying to guess the dates.

I tried using a dedicated notebook but my handwriting is so terrible that I could not read my own notes after a month. Digital is definitely the way to go.

Cloud backup is smart. My laptop hard drive crashed a year ago and I lost six months of research data in a single second. Never making that mistake again.

Spreadsheets totally saved my setup too. I color code everything by compound type now so I never grab the wrong syringe or vial in a rush.

Same here with the bad handwriting. I just keep a notes file pinned to my desktop and back it up to the cloud every weekend so I never lose my logs.

Color coding is such a great idea. I might actually steal that for my own lab binder since things get cluttered fast once you add a second or third compound to the rotation.
