Anyone else feel like they are constantly rechecking their research notes?

Man, I swear I spend half my time just double checking my research notes. Every single time I go to prep a new batch or adjust a protocol, I am back to square one, flipping through my lab book, cross referencing. It feels like I am always second guessing myself. Is this just me? Am I overthinking it? I try to be super meticulous because, you know, research integrity and all that, but it gets exhausting. I feel like I am constantly in a loop of verifying. I have tried different note taking methods, digital, physical, color coding, everything. Nothing seems to stick or make it feel less like a chore. It is just so much data to keep straight, especially when you are running multiple parallel investigations. Any tips or tricks from the veterans out there? Or just commiseration? I am feeling a bit burnt out on the administrative side of things, even though the actual research is fascinating.

I use a system where I review all notes for a specific compound at the end of each week. It helps consolidate and makes me feel more organized. Maybe try a scheduled review instead of ad hoc rechecking?

I agree with OP, it is a real time sink. I try to make my initial notes as detailed as possible to reduce the need for constant rechecking later. But sometimes you just need to confirm.
