Great question. I actually use a small continuous bluetooth sensor inside the mini fridge so it logs every minute without me having to remember.

Manual checks always miss the overnight spikes in my experience. A cheap continuous monitor changed everything for my setup.

Usually it stays totally clear until way past its prime unless exposed to direct sunlight. Trust your logs more than your eyes.
